The Wall Street Journal has written an article claiming that Google is nearing completion/release of their long-rumored and anticipated e-book retailing venture called Google Editions.
We hear rumors like these all the time but when the Wall Street Journal says it's so you should give it some credence. I'm not sure how the venture will work and if there will be any type of cooperation with Amazon's e-book store/format but it has to be a bit worrisome for Apple. Apple of course released their own ebook format and is seemingly competing with Google on nearly every front except hardware at this point.
I'd like to see some cooperation between Google and Amazon on this but that might be wishful thinking. Regardless, the article's a good read and more competition is always better for the consumer.
