I have a new Impression 9.7" tablet and a Droid X phone.
The app store doesn't recognize my tablet, seems to think its my phone and says apps are
already installed. Anyone know what I should do now??
I want some of the same apps to put on my tablet, but it wont install them.

Is it set to use the same Google account?

Yes, same account. I wouldn't think you would need another gmail account. There is susposed to be
someway to recongize what device you want to download to.

The store says app installed because you have it on your phone. if you are seeing it on your tablet, then just press the install button again. you should be fine

If you're looking at your list of apps on the market website, click the installed button beneath app that you want to install on your tablet. A pop up window will open asking you to choose which device to install the app, if it is a compatible device.

If your device isn't an officially supported device, you won't be able to see it on the website market. You'll need a copy of the market .apk to install on your device. After that you should be able to just go in and re-download your apps. Another alternative is to use a backup utility to transfer the apks via SD card from your phone to your tablet.
