Add shortcuts to Task Bar

Hi,
I am new to both this forum and my new WaveMedia 2.2 Tablet - but believe me I have tried to seek the answer prior to posting.
Can anyone tell me how do I add anything to the small "Task Bar" that is on the side/bottom of the home screen (the one that initially had 3 shortcuts on it). I have tried all ways but seem to lose or hide whatever I do.

this is somewhat dependent on the launcher that you are using on your tablet. what is the launcher you have installed?
