I purchased an Android Tablet from a recent Grabone offer in NZ. When it arrived last week I couldn't add my Gmail accounts to it - I kept getting the message that the username and password didn't match. This frustrated the hell out of me as I was sure I'd entered them correctly multiple times.
I noticed that a message flashed very quickly on my screen when I touched the Gmail icon saying something like "not set up to sync automatically". The message didn't stay on the screen for long so I couldn't get the full wording.
I have now worked out what you need to do!
1. On your PC, go to http://google.com/accounts
2. Click on "Security" from the menu on the left hand side
3. Click on "Authorising applications and sites"
4. You will be prompted to enter your Gmail account password - do this
5. Where it says "Step 1 of 2: Generate a new application-specific password", click on the "Generate password" button
6. You will now see a password of random letters - enter this as your password for Gmail on your tablet. You will now be set up properly for Gmail on your tablet.
If you want to know more about how this works, read the "Learn more" link and watch the video on the "Authorising applications and sites" screen. Good luck!
