Android tablet keeps shutting down just after power up

First timer here and hello to everyone. My wife is at home in Louisiana (I am at work on a pipeline in south Texas) and just got the 2 10" Google Android 2.2 Flytouch 3 tablets that I ordered for Christmas. After charging last night (full charge on both) she tells me that after powering up on both of them they almost immediately power back down by theirself. Since I am not there I can't be sure if the screen is just going dark (display setting problem) or powering down completely. Since the operating system is linux based I am thinking it will be easier for me as I am a linux user on all of my comps since 2006. Just trying to figure out about the power off problem. They are both new out of the box. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Ok finally got the tablets to stay on, but can't connect to the internet via wi-fi or ethernet. Does the ethernet connection need to be setup manually?? (ip address and so forth)
