BPDN won't update firmware

I have a black pandigital novel that I am trying to update with the official firmware from Pandigital. The model number is PRD07T120WBL1. I have tried both the PC update program multiple times and actually downloading the file to the SD card. I get it to the update screen and below that status bar it says checking partition then says checking update (or something along those lines) then goes blank and continues to boot normally.

What can I do?

Check and be sure you don't already have the updated firmware on the unit, if it sees the same one it won't do anything, also be sure there are no other firmware files/directories on the card since that will confuse the issue.
