Can connect Epad via ethernet but not wifi

Hi all, Merry Christmas! wonder if any gurus can shed some light on this for me.

I have a new 7" Epad/Apad or whatever it's called

Model Number = generic

Firmware version = 1.6

Kernel Version = 2.6.29-00236-g4f8dbbb-dirty

Build Number = WMT2.0.1_105

The issue i'm having is that the device is "unable to scan for networks" or "unable to save network" if i try to connect directly to router.

I can connect via an ethernet cable but obviously would like to set up wi-fi. Is there anything special I need to do or am I stuffed?

1) can you change your router to another security configuration like wpa or wpa2
i think your router is set for wep
2) look for an updated rom software and flash the tablet
