coby mid9740-8, very slow wireless

I just purchased this tablet, but the wireless is terrible. It took me several tries to even get it to authenticate (useing the same password I used earlier). But even now after it says it is good, and I am 3 feet from my router, the speed is terrible. I am downloading the amazon app store, and it has been going for 15 min. I downloaded it on my laptop in 3 seconds. Also pages time out when I try to use the browser. Is this normal for this tablet, or is there a fix. Other than the slow wifi, and no play store, I like the tablet.

After some searching, it looks like it was caused by wifi sleep. I have turned off the monitor sleeping, and it has been working much better.
