Some applications work better, or only work with an early version of the Android (like 4.0 or 4.3).
For example, I have a couple of important apps that stopped working after the 4.4 update, and since I have a Nexus 7-13 that hasn't been updated since it was unboxed, so if I put that tablet into use, it would be beneficial to keep it as it is, without any OS upgrades.
Otherwise, you'll get an unending notification that there is an OTA system update ready.
