With the current version of Android (4.4.2) and Gmail (4.7.1), how do you download attachments like pictures? I tried emailing several kinds of pictures (JPG. GIF, BMP) to myself, and none had any download/save ability connected.

I have had success with APKs and PDFs. There was a menu control (...) next to the attachment, allowing you to download/save. Photos did not have any of that.

I installed the Gmail Attachment Download plugin, but I don't get any extra buttons to download or view things.

There must be something missing?

As soon as I post my quest my question, I find my answer, as usual!

I found out that tapping a photo takes you to a preview screen, and on that screen you will see a menu control, which will let you save the picture. The Gmail Attachment Download plugin never kicked in, and after I uninstalled it, things still worked the way mentioned here.

On my device, it gets saved to /Download/
