frozen neopad on startup

hi have a neopad 8650.
After just a few months, it has frozen on startup; it does not go past the first screen which shows the neopad logo screen which dispays the kernel id, build number etc.I have removed the SD card, tried resetting which just switches off. then when I turn it on it doesn't go past the first screen.
Seems like this is a common problem but there are no posts with a solution... not happy......
