I've been using the pre-installed Google Calendar to set Events and notifications. As soon as you tap the day to open, you're cursor is set on a line to describe the event. When you type fast the app adds unwanted periods, assuming you were ending a sentence.
To get around having to retype, take notice of when these unwanted periods appear and when you get to those points hesitate long enough to let the cursor flash once and continue typing. This helps the app realize you're not ending a sentence, and leaves out the period.
This saves me lots of time retyping because the cursor on my tablet is nearly impossible to reposition exactly where needed. It'll go everywhere BUT the spot I need it to.
