help! sound wont work at all!

i got a android tablet for christmas and after a few days of having it i realized the sound stopped working. it would only make a staticy sound. i checked the settings and sound, cut it all the way up, cut the volume all the way up on the side and its just very staticy,low,and hard to understand. if anyone knows what to do please help me.

Sorry to say but you may have to return it.. First call the company to troubleshoot your tablet...

we need more detail than what you have provided. Go to Settings->About and you can get Android Version. Look at the back of the tablet, there should be a model number there, or on the box.
