Help with ide usa T801

I have a nexus 7 however, I bought a Idea T801 for my mother from fry's. I am trying to update the firmware or ROM. This device had a microSD slot. How can I get rid of the 2.2 version and intall a hacked updated OS. How can I do that if i load it on a MicroSD?
