help with wm8650

I apologize if the answer to my question has been made. There are just so many post and now I have a headache.

My husband just got me a tablet:

I settings under "about device" is:

mn# wondermedia wm8650
android vr. 2.2
kernel vr. 2.632.9-default
build# generic-eng2.2 froyo ver. 1.5.1-201109203383

on back is:

Model:M806s

There are a lot, A LOT of running programs that it won't allow me to stop. I am thinking it is similar to my android phone and I can just root and freeze.
But I am not sure if so and I am unfamiliar with how to do it.

it is very slow and I would appreciate any and all help.
