Hiddent OS files on android 2.3?

Hi

I purchased a cheap android tablet from China the other day, and when I received it, it only has about 2.3GB storage space, instead of 4GB which is supposed to be. And it is showing that 500KB used and 2.3GB free on SD card. When I asked the seller, they said the OS files are hidden and which is why it is only showing 500KB used. I'm just wandering if its true that it is possible to do such things.

That sounds about right. In addition to the internal storage being used to store the OS system files, the Android OS will also reserve a certain amount of internal memory for use by the OS as well.
