How can I find apps that I can use offline?

I just purchased a Toshiba Thrive tablet and feeling ball-and-chained to the Internet because most of the apps I wanted require continuous online access. I assume this is a trend for Android apps but would like to escape it lest I will have to consider exchanging my tablet for a back-woods Windows machine. Is there a way to filter my search in the apps market for those that can be used offline? Or any recommendations for finding them?

Are you reading the app requirements?
Some might work. I tried the Ninesky browser on a wifi only Coby and it worked. Heres an excerpt from the permissions.

PHONE CALLSREAD PHONE STATE AND IDENTITY
Allows the application to access the phone features of the device. An application with this permission can determine the phone number and serial number of this phone, whether a call is active, the number that call is connected to and the like.

I did manage to get Market installed via tweaks here. My phone book and contacts came with an update. Unless I put Skype or Fring on the tablet, it isn't calling anyone.
