How to change the ROM?

hi i have recently bought a mini 7" tablet off ebay android 2.2 WM8650 . i heard i can change the ROM so that i can have the android market on it as mine doesnt have it. Is this safe to do as i m kinda scared it will fail and i m a newbie in tablets but can do a lot on a normal PC. any help pls?
