HTC Flyer doesn't remember changes to homepage/bookmarks/wallpaper?

I'm trying to help an elderly friend with an HTC Flyer tablet. Every time I set up her homepage with the apps she uses most, set the wallpaper she likes, and add bookmarks to the browser the tablet doesn't remember the changes I've made. Is the tablet faulty or am I doing something wrong?
