MID9740 possible fstab problem

Welcome to day 4 of my Kyrosall headache. I found my MID9740 on Craigslist for $15.00. I am fairly proficient with android and laughed when the seller claimed the tablet was bricked. I repair bricks more often than a mason... Until the Coby Kyros...
Now, 4 days later I am ready to retire my SuperUser cape and sit at the noob table.
I now submit my recovery.log to this forum and pray that the Gods like Vampirefo and Traveler 1701 may take pity.

*Issue- Obviously I have no dump. The tab was stuck on Coby logo, and has never booted past that. I was able to replace stock recovery with cwm and get adb up and running. The partitions on this thing seem wrong to me. I can only mount when external sdcard is in. I am unable to mount my /data file, I can format it with Clockwork but it takes about 5 minutes. Here is the output of recovery.log.

Your log shows problem with you cache format the cache, what happens when you do a factory reset?

reboot recovery

mount /system
mount /cache
mount /data

try to mount them anyway

then

adb shell

busybox df -h

post output

you are going to need to dump the bootloader, boot.img and system also.

ADB command reboot recovery has never worked, if that clue helps. I reloaded everything again this morning using one of your tutorials,[h=1]How to Restore 7042, 8042, 9742 and your dumps. /Data still refuses to mount. Here is my output.[/h]
~ # busybox df -h
busybox df -h

tmpfs 407.1M 48.0K 407.1M 0% /dev
/dev/block/nandh 503.9M 8.4M 495.6M 2% /cache

Here is my output for the dumps.

\~ # cd /system/bin
\cd /system/bin
/system/bin # dump_image boot /sdcard/boot.img
dump_image boot /sdcard/boot.img
unable to detect device type/system/bin # dump_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.i

dump_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
unable to detect device type/system/bin #

I am able to mount /system. I can reboot recovery with hard buttons, just not with ADB commands. Boots to COBY logo for 7 seconds, flash black, reboot to COBY logo... HANG...

I have no ideal what you are doing none of the above makes any sense to me.

and if can mount /system why isn't in listed in your busybox df -h output?

Good point. Sorry, long night. Let's start over.

busybox df -h
Filesystem Size Used Available Use% Mounted on
tmpfs 407.1M 48.0K 407.1M 0% /dev
/dev/block/nandh 503.9M 8.4M 495.6M 2% /cache
/dev/block/nandd 252.0M 4.1M 247.8M 2% /system
/dev/block/mmcblk0p1 6.9G 471.6M 6.4G 7% /sdcard

A mismount...

You have to mount /system and /sdcard first. Format cache

busybox tar -cvzf /sdcard/9740_system.tgz /system

cat /dev/block/nandc > /sdcard/boot.img
cat /dev/block/nanda > /sdcard/bootloader.img

~ # busybox tar -cvzf /sdcard/9740_system.tgz /system format cache
busybox tar -cvzf /sdcard/9740_system.tgz /system format cache
tar: removing leading '/' from member names
system/
system/lost+found/
tar: format: No such file or directory
cache/
cache/lost+found/
tar: cache/recovery: I/O error
tar: error exit delayed from previous errors

Running the command busybox tar -C /system/ -zxvf /sdcard/system.tgz gave me the following.

system/
tar: can't make dir system: Read-only file system
system/app/
tar: can't create directory 'system': Read-only file system
tar: can't make dir system/app: No such file or directory
system/app/ApplicationsProvider.apk
tar: can't create directory 'system/': Read-only file system
tar: can't open 'system/': Is a directory
tar: write: Broken pipe

Don't add format cache to command some how while posting command that got put in wrong place.

I had kind of figured that, but not one to argue. I had tried it both ways though, same results. I realized that the 9740_system.tgz I had copied to my sd was only 1kb so I redownloaded and recopied but my /system folder appears to be stuck in write only.

~ # mount -o remount rw /system
mount -o remount rw /system
~ # mkdir /system/test
mkdir /system/test
mkdir: can't create directory '/system/test': Read-only file system

Your problem is data partition is not being created, two causes I can think of.
1. corrupt internal memory
2. livesuite was used on tablet with wrong image.

You could set up micro sdcard and run system and data from micro sdcard
You can build your own livesuite image, if you are going this route use dumps that are already uploaded your most likely isn't any good.

What did you expect to happen with this command?
If you use recovery to mount system it is writeable the command you are try to use is to be used in regular OS not recovery mode.
Also the 1kb system explains why busybox couldn't tar system it's empty.

If it is supposed to be writeable why can't I write to it. It says it is Read Only. And I have no idea why every time I ran busybox tar -cvzf /sdcard/9740_system.tgz /system it insisted on turning my 136mb system.tgz file into a 1kb system.tgz but I was finally able to get the system block filled in correctly. Still have had no luck with the /data though.
