Moving files on WM8850-mid

Could someone tell me how to move apps from the "Apps" folder on to the desktop, as is done automatically when downloading from Google Play Store. Wasting a lot of time here gents, need help!
Also on the WM8850-mid is the sound always so low - transferred a DVD movie over from my PC and could hardly hear it.
