need help with charging the u10gt

i just recieved my u10gt tablet today and the battery was dead so i plugged the charger it came in and it cam on for a couple seconds then turns off it it did stay on longer when i tried hooking it up to the usb port but it still said to plug in my charger and the battery was dead. any help would be appreciated.
