This is somewhat disappointing news for NVIDIA fans. It looks like their Tegra 4 technology (with ARM Cortex-15-based chipset and 72 GPU cores) won't be ready for prime time until July of this year. This was confirmed by their CEO himself, Jen-Hsun Huang. This means that the Project Shield devices they have been teasing with videos every week won't be shipping to consumers until August or even September.

This gets us wondering... if one of NVIDIA's competitors (like a next-gen Qualcomm chip, or the Samsung Exynos 5 Octa-core) is able to beat them to market, it could be a serious marketing threat. It's also possible all of these new technologies could hit the market at relatively the same time. This means the fall of 2013 could be a heated war of chipsets. For the most part, Qualcomm has reigned supreme over the past couple of years. Will they be able to keep their "king of the hill" status, or will someone else take the crown?
