Hi,

I am thinking of buying an Android tablet, but I have a key question:

I want to be able to use the tablet pretty much the same way as I use a laptop: access content on a share drive, lauch a movie from it’s location on the network etc. In other words, does an Android (ICS) tablet support samba? I am unable to find sufficient info on this topic.

A tablet is 16, 32 or 64 Gb max, so in order to play an HD movie you would require an easy way to make use of your data/media, right? You certainly do not want to upload the movie that you want to see to your tablet. If you want to see some of your 30.000 pictures, you don’t want to upload them to your device first but instead just browse to the folder on the network and just start viewing them, right?

I know this kind of works using UPnP/DLNA but this is not what I am looking for as this is just media sharing, nothing more. You lose a lot of functionality.

How do you guys make use of your data/media? Do I need a Windows tablet to do what I want to do?
