Reading epub books offline

I just got a Memo Pad 8 today. My main reason for getting it was to read e-books. How do I store epub books so I can read them offline without them automatically trying to upload to Play Books?

Thanks, PitCarver, but these are books I already have. Do I need to download a separate app that reads epubs to bypass Google Play Books?

I don't use Google, myself, but have Aldiko installed. Its available on the Play Store.
