SD card reader not recognizing card

Hello. I am new to the Android tablet world and am lost! I have a MID Superpad VI..at least thts what the box says. My husband bought me a 16GB micro SD card which isnt working. Everytime I put the card in, I get an error message that says "Remove SD card reader?" Someone please help. Any tips on how to use this thing would help!
