Sylvan 7inch tablet with android 2.2 (froyo)

My husband bought my girls this tablet for Christmas. It was only $99 so I wasn't expecting it to compare to my Mac. I was on the other hand expecting it to do something.... It has the slide app store and I can't get apps to install. I'm getting error 555. I really can't see anything this tablet can do. I just wanted an alternative for the kids to play games like angry birds and watch Netflix without using my phone or ipad2. I can't make it work so I can guarantee they can't either. Any suggestions before I return them with very disappointed girls?
