Syncing HTC Evo with A 500

Hi,

I have an HTC Evo cell phone and just got an A 500. So far, so good. Unfortunately, when I try to sync my calendar and contacts, it doesn't work. Who can tell me a way to do it. I have a google account. Do I have to start using the google calendar in order for it to transfer to my tablet? If so, is there a google calendar app so I don't have to be online all the time? I didn't see one.
