Tablet does not show my wifi signal

PLEASE HELP!!! I AM TOTALLY NEW AT ALL THIS ELECTRONIC "STUFF"........
I just purchased a Polaroid 7" android internet tablet today and am not able to connect to the internet. Under wi-fi settings on the tablet, it doesn't show my signal, nor does it scan for a signal. I have wi-fi on my cell phone and it is on (called a hot spot). I also came over to my home laptop, connected my cell phone AND tablet in to the USB ports. I'm still not able to connect my tablet to the net. What am I doing wrong? PLEASE somebody, walk me through how to correct this or do I need to return this tablet to where I purchased this?

i have the same problem; havewifi connection but wifi will not connect

Welcome to you both

Not certain what's going on but I have a link in my signature with helpful instructions for getting a WiFi connection when you're having problems. Hope something there jogs it to life.
