Tablet recommendation needed

I'd like to get some experienced users' feedback on buying a tablet. I've never had an Iphone, Ipad, etc - just a laptop.

We will be using the tablet for educational apps, checking email, reading ebooks, some web browsing, online calendar/to do, shopping lists/menu planning, etc. I'd like a 9-10" screen, dual core, 1 gb hd, wifi and around $250-350 price range. The two main users are klutzes : ), so either a sturdy tablet, or one that I can get a good protective sleeve for would be important.

Any suggestions on a good quality tablet would be appreciated!

In your price range you have many options. Today the 1saleaday website has brand new Motorola Xoom for $330. Many other used and refurbished choices like like the Acer A500, Asus Transformer can be found in that price range, too.
