The First 7 inch A31 Quad Core Tablet PC ICOO ICOU7GT Review

About a few days ago, we introduced that there will be a 7 inch quad core tablet PC that uses Allwinner A31 chip, the ICOO ICOU7GT. Fortunately, the manufacturer provided us there prototype machine this morning. At the first time we got this tablet, we did some tests on it. Coming next, let’s take a view on this first A31 quad core 7 inch tablet.

Trough the specs, we know it’s a high quipped tablet. It has the same IPS screen with the same resolution of Ainol Venus. But it equipped with the more powerful A31 chip. And its thickness is more thinner. Rear camera has been updated to higher 5.0MP camera.
We’ve already shown you the pictures of ICOU7GT, while the pictures were in whole view, since we got the real item. We took some pictures in details, more clearly and more precise.

The front of ICOU7GT, looks like a huge mobile phone.

Back shell of it, frosted finish aluminum shell provide a better touch feeling.

In the front, it equipped with a speaker and a 0.3MP camera, by the side the speaker, we can find the proximity sensor and the light sensor. The mold is 3G version mold, but what we got is a wifi version ICOU7GT. So the speaker and proximity sensor, light sensor actually did not work during the test.

The back camera is 5.0MP, the white lid is set up for enhance the 3G signal reception. Of course, this is a wifi version, so there’s no antenna under the white lid.

I/O of ICOU7GT, as we can see that this tablet uses a micro HDMI port for video output. The charging port is the micro USB port, this will makes the charging more convenient.

Dimension of ICOU7GT, 115x192x9.5mm, it’s very compact.
After view on the appearance pictures. Let’s remove the back shell and explore what’s inside this small device.

ICOU7GT applies with a blue PCB, the battery takes almost a half space.

The texture on the back shell is very clear, it has the same surface of iPad. On the left upper position, it is the SIM card slot hole.

We can easily find the CPU of this tablet, the die size of it is a little bit bigger than the RAM chip next to it.

On the left and top of the main processor are 2x 4GB NAND FLASH from Micron, the retail version will add two more 4GB NAND FLASH to increase the storage capacity to 16GB. On the bottom side and right lays 8x Hynix 256MB RAM chips.

The wireless network module of ICOU7GT, Realtek RTL8188, it supports 150Mbps connection.

This is the rear 5.0MP camera.

AXP221 power management IC also from Allwinner, it provides a better compatibility with the A31 processor.


The chip on the left is ZEITEC 6221 touch controller, it supports max. 40 inch touch panel and 5 points multi-touch. The blue part on the right is the vibration motor.

I/O parts, from left to right are micro SD card slot, micro USB/OTG port, micro HDMI port and 3.5mm earphone port.

The power up time is very short, merely about 10 seconds. After unlock the screen, the concise desktop reveal to us.


Apps drawer, google Play Store is installed and there’s Update app for OTA firmware update. Just copy the latest firmware into your micro SD card and update from the OTA update app.


ICOU7GT supports 150Mbps wifi connection and 5 point multi-touch.

Pop-up play function, you can watch a video while web browsing.

Maximum 4 video playing simultaneously is an unique feature of A31 based tablets, we’ve already mentioned about this feature before. ICOU7GT also capable of it.


Google Play is pre-installed, you just log into your account and find out the apps you want.

Facebook and youtube opens successfully.

Here is the Antutu benchmark result and system info. The CPU frequency states its maximum 1008MHz. Even though, we check the CPU by another app, and it shows the A31 can be overclocked to 1488MHz, that is approach 1.5GHz.


NenaMark2 benchmark states ICOU7GT’s 3D rendering FPS is 54.5, it will deal with most 3D games well.

A1 SD bench result, the RAM copy speed is reach to 918.78MB/S, this will makes the data processing more quickly.

Wifi signal analyzer, through the test, we find the signal reception strength is stable at -70dbm.

This app is for root status check, we checked ICOU7GT by it, it states ICOU7GT has been rooted. Which means this tablet will comes with root authority.
As we test its graphics ability in Nenamark2, now let’s see how it will reacts in real 3D games playing.
First is a popular racing game, Need for Speed 17: Most Wanted.

By the screen shot, we can clearly see the halo of the car lights and the motion blur effect during the acceleration of the vehicle. The gyro-sensor is very sensitive, the car will turn accurately with the tilt direction of the screen.


Another game is a FPS game, Mass Effect: Infiltrator. You can not find any delay while shooting in the game. ICOU7GT definitely a good game device to you.


After all the tests above, ICOU7GT performs very excellent, we can rarely find a 7 inch tablet has so many powerful features. ICOU7GT engages all the features that a remarkable tablet that has, compact and slim size, better touch feeling, multi-function, HD IPS screen and moreover it is quad core with powerful graphics processing ability. And the price is also attractive. It is worth to own one.
