View photos from an SD card / reader on my Xoom?

I recently bought a motorola xoom1, & 1of the reasons I chose it was the connectivity of it with the micro usb & hdmi ports. Using a suitable cable, should I be able to attach an sd card reader to view photos/video from the sd card from my camera? I've already got a cable (usb cable for archos internet tablet 70 43 32 2 7) that I got from amazon, but although the card reader lights up & is presumably receiving power, it doesn't appear on the xoom as far as I can tell. Thanks.

I'm a new xoom user and I'm having a really hard time learning to use it. I cannot answer your question. However, Verizon offers free classes.
