What happens when battery dies for good?

One thing frustrating about new androids is no more replaceable batteries.Last one I found was the Toshiba thrive but only in 10.1 model.So what happens when the inevitable death of battery comes in a few years?Are we just buying these tablets as disposable devices we throw out when battery goes?Do any companies have plans to change out and replace batteries for reasonable fee.Apple has this plan but its cost is unreasonable.

Should work plugged into charger. I had a Coby I returned as it wouldn't charge, but played around with it on the wall wart.

Yes and that how I ended up using an old laptop but a 7 inch tablet is made to travel and not stay plugged into a wall.
