Why do so many phone apps run slower on the A500 than say a older phone?

I have a older HTC droid Incredible and most if not all phone apps run very well on the hardware but the same apps on the Iconia A500 are much much slower. The game dropwords has a FPS meter and in that game my A500 get approx 15 frames per second but my phone gets at least double that.

Just curious.

Possibly because some apps are optimized for what ever processor(snapdragon?) your HTC is running. just my guess.

Also Honeycomb is more sluggish that gingerbread or froyo.

I think that's the main issue. As I understand it, honeycomb is a series of rushed patches to froyo to make a tablet optimised os... you probably won't see much improvement until we get ice cream sandwich... which remerges the smartphone android with the tablet android (or so google claims)
