Google is continuously extending the breadth and depth of the information it provides to search users through its Knowledge Graph feature, with the latest update adding the ability to play tracks of artists you’ve been searching for with just one tap.
The update is currently available to Android users in the United States, but Google promises it will expand it to other platforms and countries in the future.
The functionality is straightforward – when searching for an artist’s name, the Knowledge Graph section included before actual search results will include links to music apps that you have installed on the device. Clicking on a link will play tracks from the artists you’ve inquired about, no additional work required.
It seems like a minor feature, but small details like this add up and make for a truly delightful experience.
Current supported apps are Google Play Music, iHeartRadio, Spotify, TuneIn Radio, YouTube, and Rdio, but more will probably be added in the future.
