Folks, I had to use the Google Maps without a WiFi connection. You can only get the roads, not satellite, if you save offline maps, BUT the GPS works just fine with the base maps. Saving the offline maps results in much better road/street detail.
Not as good as a real map package, BUT it was accurate to a few yards, direction was spot on, and once in motion, you can use a GPS speedometer / compass app.
