No major technical breakthrough on my part, but I wanted to report that Universal Androot v1.6.2 beta 5 works for a Soft Root (lost after reboot) on my SYTAB10MT, which is the following hw/sw:
Hardware ID: 11.6.3.1
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
Android: DG2.2.1-10a2
I selected "Do not install superuser" and "Soft root"... other combinations may work, I am not sure. You may have to run "Go Root" several times before it shows success, but once it does, I was able to use RootExplorer, TerminalEmulator, SSHDroid, ConnectBot and Titanium Backup, all showing root permissions. In Term I was able to su. In RootExplorer I was able to mount /system as r/w (and in term, running the mnt command, it showed mounted as r/w).
For what its worth, and from my limited experience, I would call this a successful soft root on the SYTAB10MT.
