Accessing files on a usb drive

In settings under storage I see the usb drive listed . I just cant seem to figure out how to open or save anything to the usb drive. Do I need an app to manage those files ?

Grab yourself file manager HD from the market and browse to /mnt/usb_storage for usb or /mnt/external_sd for your add-on SD card.

it seems to take a while for the tab to see the files for the first time.

You should not need any special software, so long as you can see the drive, however if the drive contains many files you may just have to be patient and wait for a while until they show.

I am also having this problem. I am connecting via USB my portable hard drive. I tried the file manager HD, and still cannot access USB on my hard disk and my Micro SD card. Any suggestions?

Plugged my 20G mini HD into the USB port on my tablet and it found all the back up pictures, docs and music files on it. tablet has ES file Explorer already installed. opened scsi folder and there were all the files.

I've used Astro and Dual File Manager on my A500, seem to work well.
