Anybody have the 3.1 update yet?

My 8gb sdcard is almost empty, the OTA update currently available to me 1.139.04 is 29mb or so.
not rooted, as far as i know, nothing removed either.. just stock standard iconia as bought from store... with a few apps downloaded... update fails
i tried without the sdcard in as well.. same thing

how muxh free space is on your internal storage?

The USA release date for the 3.1 update should be July 5, but the updatevstarted rolling out globally on June 23. If you bought your tablet in the USA, then you should expect the update on July 5. For those who do not know, when you receive the update doesnt depend on where you live, but where your tablet came from. So, if you live in the UK, for example, and imported the tablet from the USA, you will STILL have to wait until July 5, even if UK tabs received their updates earlier.
You could also flash your tablet and get the update earlier, but that will DEFINITELY void your warranty and could brick your tablet if done incorrectly. Because the update WILL come soon, I recommend just waiting and taking extra risks.

For those unable to update with the previous update: Acer has stopped that update (probably included in the 3.1 update OR the 3.1 update completely makes it obsolete).
That could be why you cant get it working.
Also, if you are rooted, you need ALL apps and files that came with your tablet. They need to be in the original directory, installed, and named the way they were originally. If any of this isnt right, then the updates will not install. This applies to the previous update AND will most likely apply to the upcoming and any future updates as well.
There is also a log file that you can look at if your update fails. It will tell you exactly what failed. Helped me when mine failed; turned out that my Need for Speed apk file was misnamed. The log can be found in cache/recovery/last_log

Also, nothing showing in the cache folder.. (I'm not rooted either)

I did one of the 3.1 custom ROMs from XDA and even for a knucklehead like me, it was fairly easy. Works great! Probably still a work in progress, but it's been wonderful. Love my A500, but it just seems like Acer is yanking our chain. Maybe I'm wrong, but I just didn't want to wait.

Just wondering where you got the date info from. I've only heard officially about the Germany release date.

The Chinese on has a pretty high risk level going by the info on xda.
In fact there is some speculation that it isn't even an official release because Acer is based in Taiwan, not in China.
Some suspect it is a early test build. It has been available way sooner than the official release which was pushed back to the fifth.
The push back is more evidence that this was a test build, not ready for prime time.

No one has a build that Acer acknowledged as genuine.

Looks like it's starting. Everyone is eager to be the first one for 3.1. China says they have 3.1. Looks like a boot to me, but "hey it's a 3.1 boot and it says honeycomb on the outside".

Over the next couple of days, I bet "the bad people" will be putting all kinds of things in the ocean claiming that it is honeycomb 3.1. Reminds me of a RoleX (yup that was the spelling) that a guy tried to sell me once for $30.

I bet we see honeycome 3.1, beecome 3.1, honeypot 3.1, horneycomb 3.1 (hey the porn people may want some of this actiion!)

I'm waiting for the official release of the real honeycomb 3.1. I know when it's real because it will come to me (I'll find it in my updates).

The other honeycombs might run 99% correctly, but that 1% secret little thing that they added will bite you in the butt sometime in the future.

We are all sounding like Winnie the Pooh, we miss out honey pot 3.1 and can hear the grumby in the tumbly. As rabbit would say, "Just hang in there Pooh buddy"

That's just what I heard from people on this forum who spoke with Acer customer support.

I don't believe there is one truth in your rant. I'm not trying to start anything, just saying that you're making some pretty bold claims that are are easily disproved.

It was released, whether it was a leak or in China, some one got a hold of the update.
The folks over at XDA have dissected it, tested it, and given it a good review.

But more importantly, some people have modified it to their liking and are generous enough to released their versions.

Unlike most people, they have devised a way to load whatever version you think will meet your needs, and if you don't like it, you can flash (similar to update, but more like back-date) to you original configuration. Thousand have done these updates, and like any update from Acer, most are happy while some have issues. It's actually much riskier to do an Acer update, than flash one of the ROMs.

The process is simple.
1) Root - One apps at App store - Gingerbreak
2) install Clockworkmod - Found at App store - Acer Recovery Installer
3) Boot into Clockwork mod
4) Back up, this makes an imagine(complete copy) of your set-up
5) Clean data from tab, same as Acer refresh
6) Flash ROM (install the update you like).

If you don't like, you just clean the data and flash the ROM made in step four (re-install the back-up).
You can do this with any of the ROMs to see if you like.

If this is something you might be interested in, read here. If not, cool, just don't rant about how everyone else it dumb, while using really dumb analogies.
Personally, i feel the developers over at XDA have a huge advantage over the Acer programers. Thousands of people, some real knowledgeable, some not so much who are willing to load their creations and give instant feedback. This allows them to to make changes within hours, instead of months.

I flashed the Virtuous Picasso ROM. It's 3.1 with some mods.
I like it, much better. I wasn't having any issues, and I don't have any issues with 3.1
It is visibly smoother in all actions, overall just a better experience with some new apps.

Couple of points on the above:

1) XDA developers have given the leak a luke warm review at best. It causes a LOT of problems. Go read the thread. Its not been dissected to any great degree, they are far too busy trying to get it to run reliably without bricking the tablet and providing a way back out if it does. They have no real clues on what is going on inside.

2) XDA does not consist of thousands of developers, and none of them have the level of access to Google that Acer does.

3) There are no more than 20 developers in XDA that can do this level of work, the rest are posers. Of those 20 maybe two are spending any significant time on this particular tablet. There are a lot of other devices in their candy store. If you think two (or even 20) developers from XDA are better than the Professionals as ACER then why in hell did you buy this tablet?

Works more than fine, much better than 3.01
