Anyone own a msi wind?

True. But i don't think it works, I read on some forums that the only way to get the FN keys to work without a keyboard is by doing a BIOS mod.

alot of info about the FN key

Remap [Fn] key for external USB keyboard for my laptop in Microsoft Hardware Products

Yeah but, that post doesnt seem to solve the problem. The last comment was

"But the Fn function is mapped in the firmware of the device. I don't know of
any way to map our Fn key to work on a laptop keyboard."

Hmm you might be right about modifying the bios.

Its on its way back:(:(

On a brighter note i received the action xl motion controller today as well. cut my hand open opening the blister packaging.

oh dear, hope your hand is better.

I need to think how I can fit this control into the mod casing i am planning. I also want to add my 3G modem into the case. I am also looking into installing android on the tablet. But I don't know whether everything would work or not.

oh yeah. for the motion control, did you get the wireless one or the wired one?

I got the wired one. Its small. I opepend it up to find one smal single board that can be tucked into a case easily.

I installed the driver and games on my xp system and its surprisingly very sensitive.

I was gonna install the apps that would allow it to act like an accelerometer but the dellmini forum site was down yesterday. Im gonna give it a go today to see what happens.

Oh i forgot to mention the Action XL wired. Is smal. I already cracked it open. Its a single rectangular board with a couple chips on it. No bigger then 2 quarters next to each other.

Then just connect with wires to the usb plug. You can easily hide it in a case somewhere. You will just have to cut down the usb cable maybe doing away with the usb plug completely and wiring it directly in.

Wanted to share the fruits of some research I did to get the control key
back in the right spot on my MSI Wind.

Here's to the programmers who take risks for us. This freeware bios mod was
done by a guy in Russia. Fascinating and takes all the mystery and
difficulty out of the process. even better, it actually works!

Note: If you are a JAWS or Magic user this does not cause you to lose your
activation, which is wonderful.
Also it's important to remove all power from the unit before rebooting. If you don't then the first time you boot the keyboard won't work. As soon as
you pull the battery and the plug everything is fine. Okay, here's the
post.

For those people who don't know about their BIOS version or prefer fully
automated tools, I've made a software package
which performs BIOS patching completely without any user interaction; you
can download it here:
RapidShare: 1-CLICK Web hosting - Easy Filehosting

Usage:
1) Turn off your Wind, detach battery, plug the AC cable in, then turn the
Wind on.
2) Unpack the archive content to any folder.
3) Run SwapCtrlFN.cmd batch file; don't turn the power off until it's
finished!
4) Your Wind's keyboard is locked now - it's OK, so turn your laptop off
using touchpad or Power button.
5) Disconnect the AC cable and wait >10sec.
6) Done! Now you can attach battery back and turn your Wind on as usual.

Note1:
To use this package, you should have local administrator privileges on your
Wind (required to AFUWIN) - if your don't know what is it, you surely
already has it .

Note2:
After the package execution, you'll got 2 new files in it's folder: BIOS.bin is an original BIOS image, BIOSmod.bin is modded image with swapped Ctrl and
FN keys; you can use them at your own or delete.

Hint:
To swap Ctrl <> FN keys back, your can run SwapCtrlFN.cmd again .

Disclaimer:
Such a BIOS modding is an unofficial hack - use it on your own risk!
