Re-read this thread and you'll see I don't agree with using rm for anything. Instead use mv to whatever.bak so if you want it back you still have it. rm is gone gone no return.
Also to mv files in /system/ you need to be root. # prompt not a $ prompt. Are you at the right prompt?
Apps do not go to /sdcard/ they go to /nand/download & /data/app & /system/app it depends. You can copy your apps to /sdcard/ as a backup with superuser.
