How to root a Craig cmp744a ?

Hi Everyone, I have spent weeks looking around the internet on how to root my new craig cmp744a tablet (10 inch). All I can find is information on how to root the 7 inch model, which does not seem to work this one. Copying over the update.img file does nothing. Literally the tablet does nothing. I have tried the flash software, however holding down the buttons does not boot the device into the 'safe' mode to do a flash. I am at a loss, and cannot find any information.... anyone have any ideas ???

if debugging is enabled by default and you can use adb while connected via usb to your computer then just download rootthatics and it should root it for you

I ran it, and it said the following:

adbd is already running as root

Did not install anything and my tablet still says I’mrunning Android 2.3.1 instead of 4.0 in my device settings.
I installed Gapps anyways, and it said the following:

8 files pushed. 0 files skipped.
239 KB/s (4033236 bytes in 16.426s)::Success!!::

However when I try to connect it just says ‘server error’every time and does not work.
Should I try a slightly older version of the androidsoftware? Or did I do something wrong?
