Nook Color General Discussion Thread

Bill, you need to PM me before throwing wrenches in my plans. ;)

Seriously...I've always assumed the tech shows are about announcing upcoming products, not just-about-to-be-released products. Do things come out right after CES?

-Matt

The CES usually shows products that are ready to be released. I think it might be worth waiting the two weeks or so to see what happens.

Is this for you or do you plan on giving it as a Christmas gift?

OHMYGOSH, you're blessed to have missed the saga of MY NOOK COLOR! LOL

Short version: I own two at the moment. Giving one to my wife for XMAS (still wrapped) and playing with the other one right now. Will factory-reset and return the play unit next week. Based on owning/playing with numerous Android phones and more recently, some low-end Android tabs, I am really impressed with how the NC performs. Function-wise, not much more I'd want in a tablet...at least not until (as we already discussed) 3G is free.

Hi everyone, (all 2-3 of you in here), I have a NC and absolutely love it! Rooted and tweaking it now, while my evo loads a new ROM.

Welcome to at.net and the Nook section. It's good to see another user with the NC.

Howdy! Have you tried to wifi tether from the Evo? That's one of the things on my list of stuff to try (with a Droid, in my case).

-Matt

My NC tethers to the Evo fine; haven't had a problem yet.
I forget...does the Evo have built-in tethering (Verizon app...oops, I think I mean Sprint) or are you using a 3rd party app? I can't get it to work on the NC with "Wireless Tether for Android" but my Win7 machines find the SSD and connect no problem.

Yes unrooted, the Evo comes with an app called “Sprint Hotspot”, which you have to pay $30 per month to use. I’m using the app “Wireless Tether 2.0.5” to tether for free since I’m rooted. My NC sees my Evo's tether fine (SSID "AndroidTether").

And howdy to you too! Which root method did you use? I'm also curious if your Market is working...able to update and download?

-Matt

First, I rooted with nooter 0.2- everything was fine except I had a hard time setting up the ADB on my laptop and couldn't figure out how to side load non market apps...

Then I did a wipe/reset, updated to B&N 1.0.1 software, and re-rooted with auto nooter.

No problems w/ downloading from the market- I just have to turn it sideways to see what's available after a search.

Wonderful. I'm sure that will reassure anyone who is a little uncertain about doing it. Did you find when you reset that it looked pretty much stock? I haven't tried yet, but that's my expectation.

Doing a wipe and reset together: made it exactly how it was when I took it out of the box...

I had to re-register it too
