NOOKcolor Owners thread

My estimate from our forum is that the score is CELL PHONE WINS = 1, CELL PHONE FAILS = 6. That one win may become legend. ;)

Have you guys noticed the forum is blowing up like crazy lately! The word about the NC must be spreading. Welcome all : )

Add me to the list of proud NC owner from NC! You folks have been great help to me in the deciding to buy, rooting & overclocking of this bad boy! Here's my screenie:

What is your Gmail app? Mine doesn't have the counter on it.. I wants it!!

Looks like the app "dock" in ADW. I know LauncherPro has the same feature (at least it works on my Droid). I'm getting REALLY annoyed that people have such beautiful, minimalist desktops. Doesn't anyone have the normal "I-cram-every-app-shortcut-I-have-on-my-homescreen" desktop?

I did at first, but I've toned it down since then. Find what you want, decide what you need, and run the minimum. I even gave up on the obnoxious live wallpapers.

@ RaVenJ - I have the ADW Notifier installed.

Is there a way on the NC to not have to log in to this and other forum apps every time?

Does anyone have any idea what battery/date/time widget or theme nookie is running in this pic? I must know.

Well, I've gone around in circles in the last 24 hours and spent most of that time (it seems) reading the XDA development board messages. First of all, I wouldn't say that I bricked my NC yesterday, but I screwed around with it so much, adding and removing apps (uninstalling some things I think that I shouldn't have) that by late afternoon, my poor NC was really confused and wasn't doing anything right. I then decide to unroot it (more stuff to have to figure out) and while doing that, I ran into all of the conversation about the B&N 1.1 upgrade and whether or not I should try to block it. I went ahead and unrooted and by that time I had read some messages from some of the developers who seemed to believe that nooter for 1.1 would not be long in coming. So, rather than root again and then have to block the 1.1 updates, I went ahead and sideloaded 1.1 into my NC and I'm going to hang out waiting for the nooter 1.1. Of course if B&N updates to FROYO 2.2 in February and/or March, we'll all have to go through this again. In the meantime, I'm going to do more research on the apps that are available. BTW - I've read in a couple of different places that the Zeam developer is on hiatus - no one seems to be quite sure whether or not Zeam is now orphaned.

Sorry this is so long!

Sue, don't fret. You just entered the fray (sp?) at a busy time. If you'd jumped in a month ago, things would have been a bit more stable, and you probably wouldn't feel like you need to catch up so fast. But my experience is that every time a new firmware appears, two things happen: (1) people freak out, and (2) the forums get choked with "Will I LOSE ROOT?!?!?!?!" :p

Admittedly, it's been pretty mild for the Nook over here--I'm sensing more anxiety at XDA. But what tends to happen in these situations is that the devs sort it out (2-4 weeks) and we settle back into a peaceful state. :)

There is a kind of silver lining there, though! On the bright side, every time you end up resetting your Nook, the process makes a little more sense, and it gets a little faster. What's so neat about the Nook is that you can always do a complete factory restore, and then start over! For a guy who hates making mistakes (i.e., ME!!!!), that's the perfect feature.

Not trying to be artful here...we had just watched Inception, and I had to sneak this onto my wife's Nook. Loved the chuckle, and smile on her face when she saw it. :)

RE: launchers (aka homescreen replacements), I have the latest version of LauncherPro on my Droid, and I LOVE the new transition effects when you swipe between screens (especially "Cube"). That's Zeam on the Nook below (in particular, the multi-app dock is awesome), but the Cube animation on LauncherPro is so nice...

ANOTHER dude from NC? What is this, a conspiracy??? ;)

I must admit this site was what made up my mind to buy the nook.

Stick around a bit, and you'll see how awesome it feels when people say that! Thanks, and a big WELCOME from all of us. :)
