Slot next to SD slot

Took the cover off (the whole cover. not just the one side lifted up) to view the SD card slot and I see another slot next to it. Any clue as to what it is for?

I think that is for a sim card, does yours have anything in it like a piece of plastic or foam?

From what I could see it looks like a connector not a slot. Couldn't swear to it.

Looks like on at least this version of hardware, there is nothing behind the door. Tablet is turned so top of picture is bottom of tablet. The black rectangle just above the tape is the SD slot.
