Superpad 10.2--Camera Issues

I just recently purchased the Superpad 10.2'' with Android 2.1. I went with this model for the low price, and I have been mostly pleased but I am having issues with the camera. Sometimes the screen just shows green and pink flashing lines instead of an image when I try to use the camera. Does that mean there is something wrong inside the unit or does it seem more like a software problem? I have used the camera successfully a couple of times but now I can't seem to get it to work for me. Anyone have any suggestions?

Also, I am new to tablets, and there is a lot of lingo on here that I just don't understand. What does "rooting" mean? Can I upgrade to a higher version of Android? (I know, all you pros are probably rolling your eyes)
