T-Mobile Users: Anyone doing voice and Internet/data?

I need a little help here. Using my T-Mobile SIM card (Seattle, WA USA) my S7 works like a great cell phone. I had T-Mobile add their WebConnect data plan. With that change the S7 works great as a tablet, does not work as a cell phone (network doesn't allow it to initiate calls).

After getting to a technical "specialist," he said the problem is that the S7 is an Android 2.1 device. He thinks a 2.2 upgrade will fix the issue. The problem is, if I can't get this to work I want to return it right away.

If you have had success getting this device to work with T-Mobile for both voice and Internet, can you please tell me how you did it? If you required special T-Mobile services added, what were they?

The Web Connect data plan is meant for data only devices. If this was really the plan added to your account, then it may have disabled your access to your voice plan.

What kind of plan do you have with T-mobile? You can check online at tmobile.com

The current data plans for voice customers are called: 4G Data 200mb for $10, and 4G Unlimited for $30 a month, one of these plans should have been added to your account. If you are a long time T-mobile customer, you can get a preferred unlimited data plan for $20 a month.

There is much discussion on this forum about the TM problems. I bought a SIM card from them that initially worked for voice and data but they quit allowing the data part a week after I bought it. I still use it for phone and text but cannot use data. The data was available as a "Web Day Pass" for $1.49 for 24 hours. Also, it was only 2G.

Note also, based on posts here that it is believed that the Huawei radio only supports T-Mobile EDGE frequencies and cannot transmit on T-Mobile's 4G frequencies - so even if you successfully sign up for a 4G Data + voice plan, you will only get EDGE data rates. I am only parroting back what I've read on the forum. I'm not a T-mobile user so actual T-mobile users please corrrect any misinformation I've unintentially put out there. I just wanted put the info out there so the OP will do the research before commiting to a data plan that won't provide the expected data performance.

Went to walmart few hrs ago and bought a cheap tmobile prepaid phone, was $16 with tax heheh, at first i tried activating online with the s7's imei but after a few decided to set it up with the phone the sim card came with, got it activated, got my # and woot got the 10 min free on the 10 cent per min pay as you go plan. very cool put simcard in my s7 and signal is strong called cust service no prob, used #bal# and got pop up message on my s7 with the 10min bal confirmation.

man loving my s7 more and more , now to add lil more min's and this is great incase of emergency

Out of interest it's T-mob US that are out of step with the frequencies that they use. The rest of the world has no such problem.
Edge is still very usable.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. There is a much-longer thread here about T-Mobile not allowing combined voice and data. Synopsis: the T-Mobile network looks at your device's EMEI when you access their network. It determines what kind of a device you are using and gives you network access based on the device (not what you paid for). The child geniuses in T-Mobile Marketing categorize the S7 as a tablet computer that does not support voice. Here's the interesting part. It can take the network up to 2 hours to figure out what you are and apply their new settings. That explains why I initially could use voice and data and then it stopped.

Several people have complained all the way up to the CEO, but no change to this point. FWIW, T-Mobile will let the S7 act like a phone (and it is a good phone, stronger reception than my Samsung Memoir) or as a data device, just not both at the same time. If you are willing to get a lobotomy, T-Mobile has positions open with rapid advancement (apparently).

I have TM and was able to use the s7 as a phone but I only tried calling for a minute or so...i use a free VoIp service and google talk for voice....serves its purpose and its free

Data & voice with t-mobile for Huawei S7
To make t-mobile give us data and voice, because our device is a Smartphone and NOT just a tablet device we all must complain to the FCC .

ManyS7 owners have not even been able to get a refund for the data service they paid for but only enjoyed for an initial 2hrs max until t-mobile cut us off. After mentioning my complaint to the FCC my $50 refund showed up on my account after 3 days.
Let’s stop complaining to CEO’s etc who don’t really care but get the FCC involved and we will see some results.
Help get the word out. Forward this message to as many as possible.

I have Simple Mobile which is a T-Mobile re-seller. My phone voice displays that I am connected to the T-mobile network. The APN for Data is configured for Simple Mobile. I have not had any problems with switching between voice and data. However, this could because I switch out my sims between several phones. Perhaps T-Mobile cannot keep pace with the changes.
