(TCC8902/Android 2.1/7"/HDMI/1080p/3D) HSG MIDX5 aka Coby Kyros MID7005

I tried to update the latest firmware from HSG 2010-08-16 using the FWDN V2.09. It cannot upload the image, i get an error everytime i try

[ERROR] The old version(=0x07000002) device can't support 'MTD' fwdn area image.

i also noticed that my three files (rom, img & fai) are not in the same order as the previous firmware.
now i see lk.rom then the tc8900 image and then the nand data.fai
but the previous firmware had the nand data.fai listed between the rom and the image... don't know if this is critical...but it's placing it automatically after creating your NAND data image...

Anybody suceeded to update the latest firmware ??

lk.rom size 1.098.480
tcc8900_mtd.img size 115.830.112

I have just bought this model and the box says it's from huashiguang.com. It' seems a bit more stable than the 7" rockchip model and is more heavy. It comes with a nice wallet that is actually screwed to the Apad. It has a nice chrome sides but the rest is black. It has a micro usb port, a normal USB port, an earphone port, a power port and a HDMI port. The on/off switch is now on the side. The speaker is still on the back but you can actually hear stuff on this model.

When you connect to PC via USB and mount the USB, the files you copy to it go into a directory called /nand.

The storage space shown in settings is misleading as it actually has 3GB of free space which you can see when you connect it to the PC.

Not sure how you can tell what memory it has. Apparently it's 256MB but I can't see that anywhere.

In the "about device" is says it is model X5A running firmware 2.1 update 1. Kernel version 2.6.29. Build number X5A 1.0

I did try factory reset on it and it just powers off the device. I also reset via tiny hole on front and again it just powers off. I wanted to clear the google market account and this is what most people say to do. But in my case it doesn't.

Oh and one other thing. It doesn't have a gravity sensor even though most people selling it say it does.

I do have one problem with it which I hope someone might be able to help with. I stupidly connected the HDMI to my laptop and now any video or utube i try to play only outputs the sound and no video. I get a lttle white triangle in top left corner for a second at the start of the video. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Overall I think it's a very smart Apad even without G-sensor.

Here is a picture.

Where do you find information on how to flash the tablet? I have been looking around here and any help would be greatly appreciated (please forgive a NOOB)!

Hello!

Before programming a tablet other firmware,
I want to make a backup copy of all internal memory of a tablet.
(for restore may be)
Has for this purpose established in PC the driver for USB,
The tablet is visible in ADB, commands pass...

Allow to set pair of questions?

1. Whether will approach custom clocwork recovery for my tablet?

2. Whether there is in custom clocwork recovery, a script for NANDroid backup?

3. How to look in ADB at the table of partitions of a tablet?

4. Whether I will experience difficulties with loading in custom clocwork recovery,
Connected with absence on a tablet of hardware buttons?

My tablet photo:

it seems no buttons on TMARSS PAD. your tables has 3 buttons at upper right corner? or no buttons?
identify your tablet is important before flash something. if you can take photo, it is reliable.

to check MTD partition, do "cat /proc/mtd".
to backup MTD partition, do "cat /dev/mtd/mtdX" (X may vary) or just use tar command (for yaffs partitions).

The PAD 7 is a newly released device. It is essentially the X6, ie. X5A with G-sensor. It is differentiated from the X5A by the placement of the 3 buttons on the right side of the device.

Phecda P7 isn't a new device from what I have been told. I heard ODM ran into partnership problems, so there weren't a lot of these units made. Supposedly it was conceptualized before any of the HSG ones.

Hello friends!

2 fun_
Please don't consider for the idler,
But the photo sent by me earlier on 100 % coincides with my device,
(+ on mine there is inscription TMARSS PAD on the bottom border of the screen)

Thanks for answers,
With your help I any more am not afraid to root and to sew the device :)

The first: ADB
To see and whenever possible to keep the table of partitions
Including the starting address and length (with alignment on blocks)

The second: ADB shell
To make copies of partitions one after another.

The third: ADB
root the device. and have little and short fun :)

The fourth: FWDN (#283 -> #354)
To change an firmware to other version.

The fifth: 4pda.ru
To publish the received practical experience in Russian,
For the compatriots.
