[ROM] [Coby MID1042] Alien Droid (Advanced GUI customization) [11.18.12]

It would appear there are 5 versions of the 1042, I base this on the three known livesuite images which neither fully work on whread or my tablet, at the same time our tablets are also different. So that makes 5, not possible to make one rom with all the needed libs and kernel specific settings for all versions.
I have fixed my tablet, but can't find stock firmware for it, so that search continues. From the looks of things someone flashed a livesuite image on my tablet, they didn't backup original firmware. The livesuite firmware is different from original firmware so tablet crashed and fc apps and so on.

help me understand -

why can't one rom be made? from the few ROMs I got here it seems that at least 2 the clones of the 1042 cover a much broader hardware scope than any of the ROMs for the 1042 do...

"Interesting... do you think my ROM is missing some files for WiFi to normally function... or is it just the Google crap causing it... or my install script may be incorrect...

I actually don't have the 1042 anymore but do have a 4th gen Colby tab(i believe)

And what exactly do you mean by " variant specific versions or a bigger system with all the HW inside"
"

No I do not think that - there were already a lot of WiFi issues with these b4 AlienDroid - I can make mine have them by using various WiFi dongles - some work, some are intermittant and some do not work at all

Google is crashing some of the ROMS I have been using that are for tablets used in different countries or when I apply the hacks to get Google into a nonlicensed tab

The wiFi has at least 2 versions (or revisions or variants)- what in all the roms looked at so far and mine and maybe a 3rd in vampirefo's - the ROM dumps seem to all come from 1042's made b4 OCT or NOV of 2012 when I believe mine was made

You did super work - we are just finding out now that there seem to be a number of hardware versions/revisions/variants - you made the smoothest running ROM I tried

"variant specific versions or a bigger system with all the HW inside" - there are 2 approaches that OEM's use - write a slightly different ROM for each of the different hardware versions or write one that has all the different hardware in it - most of the hardware will be the same all the time- some of the hardware will change over time (price/availability/user issues mostly cause this) - the limit is how big the partitions are, 512Mb in our case I believe

I was referring to my tablet, the tablet hates wep, which is what I use on my router, but the tablet loves wpa which is what my phones uses.

whread's problem is a lib, he loads different modules for wifi, switching the lib in your rom would fix his wifi, but break wifi for everyone else.

perhaps the absolute correct lib would have fixed it - I just got lucky and it came back after installing ROMs hours on end - please be aware that when using WiFi dongles once the WiFi stops I have only been sucessful getting it back by shutting down, restarting w/o the dongle, shutting down, restrating with the dongle in most cases - in 2 cases the dongle would not work until I installed a different ROM then installed the ROM that I had the WiFi issue with

I could try to get my internal WiFi board/card/module to stop and then open the 1042, remove the WiFi, restart, shut down, put it back in, restart and see what happens

looking in there is becoming an obsession

android the more you add the more you break, the modules yours needs causes my tablet to crash as the kernel requirements are different, you want one kernel to load the modules for each tablet this is not possible overlap will cause crashes, loss of Internet, loss of touch screen.

currently there is no stock rom that my tablet will run 100% yet it will run my 7042 cm9 port like a dream, with only slight modifications. My tablet can't run Alien Droid rom without crashes.

Could not make that happen on mine or my friends - try installing ROM TlKt Pro or similar and slow the CPU closk to 1152 (or 1156 depending on your 1042) b4 u reboot and see if it still crashes

That's my point any rom that works well for you will cause my tablet problems. so no way to make one rom that work for both tablets. I am happy with my tablet running the 7042 cm9 port, later will test the 7042 cm10 port, my 1042 runs the 7042 kernel like a champ.

Well that would require some work, open each live suite md5sum each kernel and framework, then have each person do the same for their tablets. Matches let's you know what version they have, no match means they are the same as mine or whread, to see difference in whread version use lsmod.
His WiFi module is an 8192 series while the rest of us use dhd.

a person could gather the roms and use their computer to parse them and dump the differences or a quick but not completelt definitive way would be to look into the vendor section

it would be very odd if the backplane/MB CPU GPU low level io/basic hardware was not the same on all of them

can you post a dump that you did not unwrap and unpack the system so i could try your ROM

I am sorry I can't explain it to you, you need to load 8192 for wifi, loading that module causes my tablet to have fits, can you explain how you are going to load your 8192 and not cause my tablet problems? this is only on example.

I told you I am a stunod - because I am a stunod when I look at the ROM for the clones I think I find lots more hardware in there and those ROMs work at least on mine ?

Broadcom 8192 ?

thats from a Coby ROM - I have the PROTAB2XXL(4) ROM at the moment - was feeling responsible for causing you a crash and it does run nicely
perhaps it woul dbe better if I put a Coby ROM that works for me back in then post it

On the other hand it might be good to look at what the PROTAB rom does with the hardware?
