(How To) CM7 Bootable SD

Glad you got that worked out. always worth checking the MD5 fi you have problems of that sort. Should have thought of that sooner. :)

I have successfully converted my Nook Color to CM 7. My husband asked me to set his up with CM 7 on the SD, and leave stock 1.2 or the NC. I followed your terrific instructions (thanks) and all seemed well until I went to the Android Marketplace. I am getting a message saying "this software is not compatible with your device" when I try to download the Kindle or Nook readers. Haven't tried other programs yet. Any ideas? Thanks.

Sounds like the new Market is causing you issues. Search around there are aleady a couple of threads dealing with this. If you still can't find the solution then ask again.

Good question. Release Candidate 1 just got upgraded to stable in the last day or two. There should be no difference but I have not actually updated yet. I don't see why it would make any difference going from RC1 to stable.

Can anyone confirm this works with the new CM7.1?

It should with the new stable ROM. The market was fixed in nightly 200 and the stable release came out right after nightly 214. I was of the impression that the stable release included all of the prior nightly fixes.

I'm running cm7 off an Sd card. How do I update to the new cm7.1 without harming the nc stock. I want to be able to switch back and forth through the boot menu or by simply removing the sd card.

Updating to 7.1 will not do anything to your stock Nook, only update the SD card. The first post has the link to the XDA thread for updating. Basically, copy the new CM7 version to the Boot partition of the SD card (the partition visible if you insert the card into a PC). Then insert the SD card into the nook and boot into recovery. The new version will automatically be installed replacing the previous version of CM7. If you can't figure out how to boot into recovery using the n and power buttons you can do it from the advanced power menu that is brought up when you power down the nook from CM7.

Hi, I running CM7.0.3 off SD card, no nightlys and stock 1.2, not rooted, on emmc. I have got a notification from Rom Manager that the CM7.1 is available for upgrade. Can I upgrade my SD card while its in the NC? If so, how do i do it? Or do I have to use my PC to update my card, as stated above?
I haven't done anything yet, cause I don't want to mess up my SD card, I haven't even opened the notification to see what the options are.

To upgrade SD install without taking card out of nook:
Pre-req:
you need to have ADB working (adb wireless works well if you can't get adb working over usb

First time only:
1. run adb and connect to nook (adb connect XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:pORT.... X's = IP addy of nook... :pORT only required if nook is not using 5555... the adb wireless app will tell you)
2. adb shell busybox mkdir /sdcard/boot

Every time you want to upgrade:
1. same as above if not already connected
2. adb shell busybox mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p1 /sdcard/boot
3. adb push (YOUR ROM FILE... i.e. cm_encore_full-227-IMEI.zip) /sdcard/boot
4. turn off adb wireless on the nook if you used it.
5. reboot nook and start recovery mode

I personally copied uRecRam and uRecImg to uAltRam and uAltImg on my SD so I can just power it on while pressing vol +/- keys and avoid having to go into the Cyanogen boot menu.

After giving TONS of time to trying to do this, finally, I've had a bit of success. Here's what I tried and what ended up working :).

At first, I was trying to do this on a PNY 16GB Class 4 card. It wasn't until I tried it on an 8 GB SanDisk that things worked out. The Class of that card? I'm not sure, I threw away the packaging. Anyway, after getting the 8 GB card, I ran the same steps as before. Specifically:

1) I burned an image of the generic-sdcard-v1.3.img file (after extraction from the original "generic-sdcard-v1.3.img.gz" file).

2) Then I added the Android and Google apps zip files (update-cm-7.1.0-encore-signed.zip and gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip).

3) Then I made sure the nook was powered off and inserted the card, turned it on, then let all that code run. Then I held the off button for about 15 seconds to power off then …. tried to start it back up again.

4) It would not start up again :(.

So then I tried again. I reformatted the card and decided to try yet another angle. What I tried then was the same as before, only instead of the update-cm-7.1.0-encore-signed.zip and gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip files, I decided to try the earlier versions of those files (but still sticking to the 1.3 image file, because I know that my nook is running on the 1.3 updated software, which I imagine that "1.3" in the sdcard-v1.3 filename correlates to). That actually worked! Soooooo, basically I did steps 1, 2, and 3 the same as above, but instead I used update-cm-7.0.3-encore-signed.zip and gapps-gb-20110307-signed.zip along with the image file.

Now I'm wondering this - how do I upgrade things, since I used earlier versions (or do I even need to)? Also, there was a hiccup during the Setup Wizard phase. Is it possible to bring that up again? If not, how do I get back in there again to set up my Google Marketplace stuff?

I've had my nook rooted since May and haven't done anything to it since then. I'm running 7.0.2-encore. I followed the instructions in the original post and it worked great. I'm running off of an SD card and I want to upgrade to 7.1 because my market is telling me some of my apps aren't compatible so I can't update them. I've downloaded the 7.1 zip file and saved it onto my sd card with all my other files and folders. I can't figure out how to boot in recovery so i can load the zip file. I've tried from ROM Manager and I've tried from the power options after I press the power button.

Can someone please tell me in easy terms how to get everything up to date?

I followed your instructions to the T. For some reason the apps zip file did not open. I found another apps file but I am not sure how to install it on the SD card. I know your instructions state do not unzip which I did not do. I put it in my nookcolor but I still do not get the apps from google. Help Please!!!

I've looked all over for the answer but can't seem to figure it out, and I've become so grouchy my wife is getting mad at me......

I've followed the instructions here, and have successfully completed everything to step 9, where the installation is complete and the nook powers off. Unfortunately when I power the nook back on, it boots into the nook OS. Would this issue be cause by using lame/cheapo SD cards? I thought using poor quality cards simply makes the OS unstable and buggy, but would not have an affect on installing the CM7. Am I incorrect?

Thanks for your help!!!

UPDATE:
Files used are:
generic-sdcard-v1.3.img.gz
gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
update-cm-7.1.0-encore-signed.zip

Nook is a newly purchased re-furb unit that is running 1.2

Hi,
I am having a very similar issue.
It appears that the files (update-cm-7.1.0-encore-signed.zip and gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip) are too big to expand with the partitions that the generic-sdcard-v1.3.img creates.
Yes they fit onto the sd card, but when the generic-sdcard image starts to setup it says there is not enough storage.

I don't have a solution but I see what is going on.
